Photo analysis

1.    This framing for this photo is the red, yellow and black madrista flag. It frames all the passionate Spanish fans who are the main subject of the photo. It forces you to look at the fans by drawing in the eye. It has been composed so there is nothing uneven and that you only see Spanish fans. It also makes sure the top section is out of focus so the focus is on the front rows of the fans. The lighting is used so the far bit of the stand isn’t seen, just the front bits are. A ray of light from one of the stadium lights shines on some of the flags to highlight them and put them in focus. No editing has been added.












  

2.    This has been framed by the white and red stand railings. It forces you to look at the fans cramped in the top which are the talking point of the photo. It has been composed so you can see the contrast of the space and cramped areas, really illustrating the point by their juxta-position. Lighting isn’t used in the photo. There has been no editing used. The talking point of the photo is the cramped fans in the top stand.  

3.    I think the frame is the outline of the stadium. I like the way the framing has been used, as you can see a lot of the stadium and the fans. It has been composed so you can see as much of the stadium as possible and you can’t see any of the players, so putting the focus directly on the fans. No special use of lighting has been employed. The artificial light is effective though, but I think this is an accident. No editing has been used. Overall the photo is mainly focused on the fans. But the bright brash green of the grass is eye-catching

4.    The flowers and the outline of the stadium form the frame here. It has been composed so the main focus is on the flowers and the goalkeeper. No lighting has been used and I don’t think any effects have been added, except a warming filter might have been used judging by the warmth of the tones here. The specific thing that makes the photo work is the flowers behind the goal, as it is unusual to see them there. You don’t know properly why the flowers have been; but it is obvious that they must have special significance in this alien environment. The laying of flowers is usually associated with remembering people after their death, so this is the immediate connotation that springs to mind.  However, when people die you don’t put the flowers behind a goal, and when someone dies in football, the flowers usually go in front of the gates in the stadium.    

5.    There isn’t any framing here to analyse. The photo has been composed so you can only see the two front rows of fans and you can only see Liverpool fans. I think low contrast has been used as there is contrast between the darkness of the rest of the stand compared to the front two rows. The photographer may have used a light saturated effect. I think it is the contrast between the red scarves and the darkness of the rest of the stand, this makes the colours leap out at the viewer.

6.    The pitch and the stand frame the photo. The framing forces you to look at all the fans. The photo has been taken from far away so the fans look “big” and the German team looks rather tiny.  This is a subtle way of using camera angle to promote the home team and belittle the opposition. The lighting has been used so it highlights the English fans. No editing has been used. The main thing about this photo is the way it makes you completely ignore the German team, who fade into insignificance as you look at the English fans.

7.    The stadium boards are used to frame the photo, making you look at the celebrating fans. The photograph has been composed so all the fans are in the middle and the photographer has managed to take the photo exactly when the team score and all the fans have their hands up in the air. Lighting hasn’t been used and effects haven’t, this picture is all about the timing of the shot to capture the euphoria. The expressions and the elation.  As this all happened so quickly, and the movements are rapid, so the resolutions has to be excellent with maximum frames per second.. The main thing about the photo is the brilliant pin-point timing the photographer has taken it in.

8.    The framing here is the structure of the stadium, which draws the eye in to look at the pitch and the fans in the stands. It has been composed so you can see almost the whole stadium, the goalie, the players and the fans. The lighting is used so it goes forwards to slightly focus on the goalie, making him the centre point in spite of the busy picture. There has been no editing. The main thing about the photo is that it shows everybody and gives an overall impression.

9.    Again, this is framed by the outline of the stadium. It is composed so you can see the contrast of colours between the blue sky, green grass and red and white fans. The artificial lighting makes it look extremely bright, vibrant and colourful. There might have been a saturating effect to enhance the colours further. I think the main focus is the brash, contrasting colours  

10.This has been framed by the line and goal sign. It has been composed and timed so you can see the disappointment of the fans after the opposition have scored. There has been no specific use of lighting. It hasn’t been altered and no effects have been used. The picture captures a moment of extreme emotion and pain on fan’s faces.  High resolution is used to capture the immediate impact of the goal on the home fans.

11.There is no specific framing on this photograph; it has been composed so that you can see one, lone Manchester United fan in the middle of a whole bunch of Newcastle fans. No lighting has been used or effects. None of this is needed as the one focus is the solitary fan and the contrast between all the black and white stripes and the one flash of red.  The message is simple and needs no extra effects to make the point; the visual image is strong enough.

12.This photograph is framed by the out of focus food store. It has been composed so you focus on the Newcastle united tattoo. The lighting is used so it shines on the tattoo and puts the other man at the food stall blurred and out of focus. I think a blurring effect was added to distort the focus further. The main point is the tattoo which is sharply focused and obvious.
